Free Community Dinner and Food Distribution Program

The mission of the free grocery, meal and clothing program is to have a positive impact on people experiencing food hardships in the neighboring community and community at large. The program has been in operation for 20 years.


SPECIAL THANKS:

Deeds of Kindness for their partnership in providing coats for the Turkish Embassy earthquake relief collection. They continue to provide us with coats and other clothing.

Volunteer parishioners from our Mother’s Union and other groups, their friends and families for hours packing grocery bags and distributing groceries and meals.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Serving the community since 2005; post -pandemic, the program has returned to serving participants in-person.

Summer 2016, St. Michael’s collaborated with the Food and Nutrition Education Program (FNEP) sponsored by the University of Maryland and hosted two supermarket shopping tours.

2016 Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) designated St. Michael’s as a Partner for Wellness indicating that most food items ordered are low in salt, are whole grain, and/or consist of fresh produce so that participants have access to healthy food options.

2020 Covid-19 Grant from Episcopal Diocese of Washington to continue serving community during pandemic.

2022 Participant in The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP).
